The Santa Maria Elks are kicking off their 76th year with two time-honored traditions -- the Miss Wrangler and 60th annual Beard-A-Reno and contests.
Registration for both events begins Monday and runs through April 5.
Entry forms can be picked up weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Elks Rodeo office, at 113 S. College Drive.
A custom-made silver belt buckle will be awarded to the winner of the Miss Wrangler contest and to the winners of the 11 "whisker" growing categories, which include longest beard, blackest beard, whitest beard, reddest beard, best goatee, best mustache, best sideburns, best attempt, wildest, best western characterization and best all-around.
All entrants in the Miss Wrangler and Beard-A-Reno contests must be at least 21 years old.
All Beard-A-Reno entrants must be clean-shaven at the time of registration.
Mustaches are OK, however entrants with mustaches at signups are not able to enter the mustache category.
The registration fee for all entrants is $25 and includes a barbecue beef rib awards dinner and entertainment on May 11. The dinner begins at 5:30 p.m.
The first 10 ladies to enter the Miss Wrangler contest will receive a Wrangler gift certificate redeemable for a pair of Wrangler jeans. In order to receive the certificate, entrants must be registered and must attend and participate in the event.
The awards dinner is also open to non-contestants. Those tickets, which go on sale on Monday, can be purchased at the rodeo office or by phone at 805-925-4125.
The 76th annual Santa Maria Elks Rodeo will be held at the Unocal Event Center from May 30 through June 2.
