Orcutt American racks up another win

  • Updated

The Orcutt American Little League 11-12 All-Stars' two tournament results have been strikingly similar.

Orcutt American has taken both of its games in the double elimination District 65 11-and-12-year-old Tournament by 10-0 scores and has not had to go the distance either time.

Orcutt American defeated host Lompoc 10-0 at Ray Anderson Field, the east field at Johns-Manville Park in Lompoc, in a winner's bracket game Tuesday. The game ended after five innings because of the 10-run rule.

Manager Nick Thayer's team beat Orcutt National 10-0 last Saturday, the opening day of the tournament. That one went four innings.

Regulation Little League games are six innings.

Orcutt American will play Nipomo at 2 p.m. at Ray Anderson Field this Saturday in another winner's bracket game. The winner will advance to the July 3 winner's bracket final.

Lompoc will play an elimination game at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Johns-Manville west field against an opponent to be determined. The host team had a first-round bye.

Ryan Delgado and Darien Langley combined on a two-hitter for Orcutt American Tuesday. Delgado worked the first three innings. Both pitchers gave up one hit.

Meanwhile, Orcutt American's batters played long ball. Six of the designated home team's nine hits were for extra bases.

Colby Thayer, Nick's son, racked up three hits, including a two-run home run in the fourth, and provided a preview of things to come when he tripled Delgado home in the bottom of the first inning.

The victors scored in every inning except the second. Orcutt American struck for two runs in the first inning, three runs in the third and three runs in the fourth.

Runs number nine and 10 came on a catcher's throwing error in the fifth after a dropped third strike. Steven Vasquez and Connor Adams scampered home, and the game ended.

Back-up Carson Gomes hit a three-run home run for Orcutt American in the third to up the designated home team's lead to 5-0.

After Thayer homered over the left field fence in the fourth to make it 7-0, Langley tripled home Thayer.

Delgado and Isaiah Navarro both doubled for Orcutt American Tuesday. Steven Espinoza and Derek Argel had a single apiece for Lompoc.
